We Hope That Our Patron Valerie Taylor Can Make The First Dive With Us

“The Central Coast Artificial Reef Project (CCARP) hopes that our Patron Valerie Taylor can be with us on the 13th April 2011 to watch the scuttling and we also hope that Valerie can join us for the first dive after the Adelaide is Scuttled off Terrigal/Avoca” Said secretary, Sue Dengate

“Valerie Taylor, internationally acclaimed marine environmentalist has recently become the Patron of the Central Coast Artificial Reef Project because she knows the true benefits that the Adelaide project will bring to the marine environment and marine research” Said Sue “Valerie is now in her late 70’s and during her life has truly made her mark. Along with her husband Ron Taylor they are multi-award winning filmmakers who specialize in underwater films and marine eco systems”

“Valerie Taylor and has been awarded many Australian and international awards for her lifelong work to protect the oceans and the creatures that live in it” Said Sue “In 1986 Valerie was appointed Rider of the Order of the Golden Ark, by his Royal Highness, Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, for her work in marine conservation. On Australia Day in 2002 Valerie was awarded the honor of Australian Senior Achiever of the year and Ron and Valerie received the Wildlife Preservation Society of Australia's Serventy Conservation Medal”

“Valerie has been honored by many other awards, but the highlight was in 2010 when she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her service to conservation”

“Valerie Taylor is therefore well placed to comment on the benefits to the marine environment that will come from the sinking of the ex-HMAS Adelaide and the artificial reef it will create” said Sue Dengate

“Valerie was unable to attend the recent Information Night at Crowne Plaza Terrigal held by Central Coast Artificial Reef Project (CCARP) when she was announced as the group’s Patron” Said Sue “However she issued the following Statement which was greeted with prolonged cheering from the over 500 people who were there”

"I have worked in the marine conservation movement for most of my life.
It is time we gave something back to our beautiful oceans from which we have taken so much for so long. I am proud to be the patron of the Central Coast Artificial Reef Project and I ask the State Government to sink the Adelaide as soon as possible"
