And There Was Standing Room Only
“On Thursday night 24th February, the Central Coast Artificial Reef Project (CCARP) held an Artificial Reef Information Night in the Ball Room of the Crowne Plaza at Terrigal.” Said secretary, Sue Dengate
“We organized this night in the space of just over a week and although we were hoping for a good crowd, the short notice that we gave made us worry that we may not get a big response, but WOW, were we surprised” said Sue “it was standing room only with about 500 people in attendance”
“There were three reasons why we held the night” said Dengate -
- To give people a better understanding of artificial reefs, both deliberately scuttled and by ‘misadventure’
- To dispel the misleading and erroneous information by giving factual information
- To bring to the attention of ALL politicians that the vast majority of people support the Adelaide Project
“We also announced our new Patron, Valerie Taylor (AM) and although she could not attend the night, she sent us a letter of support and congratulations and we hope that she will be able to join us on the first dive on the Adelaide shortly after the scuttling” said Sue
“Of course the big moment of the night was when David Harris MP announced the new scuttling date which met with loud applause and although it had been announced by Minister Kelly earlier that day, some people were unaware of it until then” said Sue
“We now look forward to the BIG event on the 13th April 2011. This date being chosen because the weather is still favorable, it is outside whale migration and the tugs needed to be booked at least six weeks in advance” said Sue “and it is in the school holidays on a Wednesday, so the playing fields will be available for parking and people can still have planed functions on their weekend”
“Put the date aside … it will be a BIG one”
“We would also like to re-affirm the ex-HMAS Adelaide’s motto”
“United for the Common Good”
