CCARP IS INVITED ONBOARD THE EX HMAS ADELAIDE
Members of the Central Coast Artificial Reef Project (CCARP) group was invited onboard the Adelaide for a tour last week following the ships visit to Terrigal last week.
“The Captain, Commander Robert Slaven RAN, phoned Les Graham of Terrigal Dive and invited him and members of CCARP to join him and his Executive Officer Phill Henry LCDR RAN on Friday afternoon” Sue Dengate said
“Les had been in contact with the ship for over a week to organise the visit of the Adelaide to Terrigal on behalf of CCARP and The Captain was so impressed that he sent the invitation to the group so that we could come onboard and have a tour of the vessel” Sue Dengate said
“Several members of Ccarp were able to go to Garden Island where the Adelaide is currently moored to have a complete tour of the ship. They were met by The Captain and the Exec Officer who gave them a guided tour through the ship. It was a tour of the length and breadth of the ship, going from top to bottom that lasted for 3 hours” Sue Dengate said
“CCARP members had time to ask questions and get a picture in their minds of what the vessel will look like when she is sunk. They also asked about the manoeuvres that the ship did while she was visiting Terrigal last week. During one hard turn that the ship did we were all amazed at the list that the ship was on. The Exec officer said that during that time the crew was supposed to be having breakfast, but as the ship was at an angle of approximately 28 degrees, they postponed breakfast for a short time” Sue Dengate said
“The Executive Officer is a keen diver and has offered to come up after the Adelaide is sunk and give guided tours of the ship for the two dive clubs that Ccarp is based on, Terrigal Underwater Group and Brisbane Water Aqualung Club” Sue Dengate said
