CCARP CALLS FOR MORRIS IEMMA TO IMMEDIATELY SUBMIT A SUBSTANTIAL BID FOR THE HMAS ADELAIDE

The Central Coast Artificial Reef Project (CCARP) group today called for Morris Iemma to submit an immediate substantial bid for the soon to be decommissioned HMAS Adelaide

“We believe that the Federal Government will fund $2 million for this ship to be sunk off the Central Coast provided that Mr Iemma submits a bid before the 31st December this year,” said Sue Dengate, Secretary of CCARP.

“After lobbing extremely hard for this artificial reef for over six and a half years, we are within sight of our ultimate goal coming to fruition and we have therefore implored Mr Iemma to exercise this right by submitting a bid of reasonable proportion immediately in order to secure this lucrative vessel.”

“We have worked closely with our local Federal members Jim Lloyd and Ken Ticehurst who have been lobbying in Federal Parliament to get a ship for the Central Coast and Jim has been able to secure the HMAS Adelaide exclusively for the Central Coast if only Mr Iemma will submit a bid.”

“For an investment of less than $1 million (with the Federal Govt funding a further $2 million), the State of NSW would earn $17.5 million in the first two years and increased job placements. Add to this the fact that THESE FIGURES GROW OVER TIME as the artificial reef develops and the visit frequency increases, therefore the INCOME CONTINUES TO MULTIPLY WITH NO FURTHER INVESTMENT.”

“Already Western Australia has two ex naval frigates as artificial reefs, South Australia has one Queensland has one, and now Victoria has the Canberra. Obviously other states have seen the financial benefits that this sort of project brings to their state, leaving NSW behind,” Sue Dengate said.

“Surely the NSW Govt cannot afford to miss out on this very lucrative venture! Consequently we call on Mr Iemma to submit a bid for the HMAS Adelaide to the Federal Minister for Defence IMMEDIATELY”
